Demet Basar is a partner of the firm. Ms. Basar’s practice is primarily concentrated in complex securities and commercial litigations on behalf of individual and institutional clients.
Her recent cases include several multidistrict securities litigations, including In re Mutual Fund Investment Litigation, MDL No. 1586 (D. Md.) and In re J.P. Morgan Chase Securities Litigation, MDL No. 1783 (N.D. Ill.), and cases involving mergers and acquisitions, such as In re American Pharmaceutical Partners, Inc. Shareholder Litigation, Consolidated C.A. No. 1823-N (Del. Ch. Ct.), and In re Bronco Drilling Company, Inc. Class Action Litigation, No. CJ-2008-848 (D.C. Okla.).
She is admitted to practice in New York, New Jersey, the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Second and Sixth Circuits; and the U.S. District Courts for the Southern District of New York, the District of New Jersey, and the Eastern District of Wisconsin. Ms. Basar is a member of the New York City Bar Association.
Ms. Basar graduated summa cum laude from Fairleigh Dickinson University and, in 1990, received her J.D. from Rutgers University School of Law, where she was the Senior Notes and Comments Editor of Rutgers Law Review and a recipient of West’s Scholarship Award for her articled entitled "The Responsibility of Nuclear Scientists Under International Law." She is fluent in Turkish.
